Ikea glass cage.. no lid? or lid?

Hi everyone,

I have a syrian and the store here in Iceland suggested a rather small cage however with some research Ive decided to upgrade his cage to make him happier. I am VERY new to this and I am wondering if I can have the cage without a lid.
What is the possibility for him climbing the glass until the weekend - when I could possible make a lit. What do you think?

I would leave him in the current cage till you are able to make a secure lid for the detoft from Ikea as they can very easily climb out of these. You must have a lid for these and not just an open op. Even a small hamster could climb on something and get out and also if a cat, dog or other animal somehow got in it could catch a hamster. He will be just fine till then and you don't want to risk an escape!

I would never have a hamster cage without a lid, not worth losing your pet. They can be cunning little devils and often find a way to get out that you wouldn't even have thought of, i.e. up a water bottle or wheel, or even if they suddenly decided to move bedding and once the bedding has been moved they might realise they can suddenly escape.
