Hello from Spain!
Hi! I joined a few days ago and I think it's time to introduce myself! My name is Empar and I'm from Spain. I always loved animals and we always had at least one animal in my house so, when I was a teenager, one day when I came back from school I surprised my parents with a hamster, I know, you shouldt get animals without your parents permission but at least I knew they were ok with having animals. Long story short, I ended up having 3 hamsters(Not at the same time) when I was a teen.
Now I live with my boyfriend and we have a cat, she is called Arya and she is soo good, soo pretty and I love her so much but I really missed taking care of a hamster so last october I started looking for a hamster to adopt. I kept looking on different websites, called some shelters but I couldnt find any hamsters so, at the end of november I bought a hamster from a big pet store here in Spain. They sent me and email with a care guide and of course I thought the info that they sent me would be good so I followed it. Sadly the hamster passed away 3 weeks later, I was devastated and I couln't believe it. We ended up with the conclusion that he was already ill when we got him so I no longer support that pet store (Or any big one tbh).
At the end of january a friend suggested me a small local pet store that has a really good reputation so I ended up buying a hamster. He is a roborowski called Amigo and when I got him I kept following the guide that the other pet store sent me and tbh I don't know why I did that after the awful expirience I had with that store. Around a month and a half ago I discovered some amazing youtube channels that made me realize how many mistakes I've been making. I feel really bad for trusting what a pet store told me and I've been fixing all the mistakes since then. And that's why I joined this forum, to keep learning more and more about hamster care and be a good mom for my hamster!

Re: Hello from Spain!
Hi Empar, welcome to the group. Do not feel alone as many of us here did the same thing. My husband had hamsters when he was young as well and we started out doing the same things he did 30 years ago. I had a too small cage, bathing dust instead of sand, not enough bedding, the list goes on!
You have found a great community willing to answer questions without making you feel bad about making mistakes!
Congrats on your new family member!

Thanks so much! I'm really happy to have found this forum. I can't find people here in Spain (Or at least in my area) interested in hamsters or people who really know about them. I've been loking for a vet with experience in hamsters just in case I ever need one know where to call and I haven't found any yet D:
