Hi, from Portugal!
Hi! So, I'm new in the forum, and I don't have an hamster yet. I'm from Portugal, and I'm a university student, and I have thinking of having a hamster.
Because my birthday is close by, I spoke to my parents and my boyfriend to make a deal with them. If i built the cage, all by myself, they would give me a hamster for my 20th birthday. So now I'm trying to gather all the materials I need to build a cage before I adopt or shop (still don't know which) and I thought of asking if anyone has any ideias or tips to give me
I've been making my research and in one of Erinsanimals videos, I found this forum, and thought it would help me in my research
(I don't know if this is the correct way to post something, but I hope so)
Thank you

I recomend the following youtube channels :

Due to the fact that you are in Portugal i have some experience with bad hamster advice. Pet shop employees will give you bad products and so on and people around you might just say things like: Why does a hamster need all that? etc. You need to resist the urge to give into bad advice. Just do the research and stand your ground
Also browse the forum and don't be afraid to ask for advice. We are all here to help you.
If you are a student and plan on having your hamster in your bedroom i would invest in a silent apropriate wheel. They might be expensive but they are worth the money trust me.
We can't wait to see what you get.

Thank you for the advice. I've been watching Erins for some time now, but i didn't know of the other you recommended. I still don't know if I'm buying the hamster in the pet shop, or on some breeder near me (but only if he/her gives proper care for breeding).
My dad, my boyfriend, and my mom's boyfriend have been confronting me with those questions. "Why so much space for such a tiny animal?". But my dad, he worked many years in a carpentry, and he's going to help me build the cage this summer. It's gonna be fun arguing with him about the space the animal needs... But I will have my way!!!
I will also, invest my full time (after I'm done with my classes, I'm at university right now, and this week we started our replacement classes...). After I'm done with the cage, I'll post it here, so you can all see it (and give me a feedback) and then, I will choose the hamster, and where to buy it.
Thank you for your advices

Re: Hi, from Portugal!
Best wishes as you prepare for your new hamster! Sounds like you are doing your homework and really want to give him/her a good home. This is a great forum to learn and get advice from other people who know about and really care about hamsters, so it’s great that you found us here. Good luck!
