Syrian Hamster with a spot?
Hi all!
I made an account to ask for some advice, as my Syrian hamster Lennie has a had a small spot come up. He is 9 months old, and it's only just appeared. I wondered if anyone knew if hamsters could just get spots? its just by his bottom lip, quite small and just seems like an acne spot a human would get. I am worried it could be cancerous or a cyst, however its not red, no surrounding hair loss, no bleeding, doesn't look irritated, he's let me take a look at it and his behaviour is perfectly normal. Would anyone be able to give me any reassurance? I'm quite a worry wort and with the lockdown its not the ideal time to take him to the vets, if anyone has had anything similar with their hammy I'd love some advice!
Thank you in advance!

Hi and welcome to HC!
Could you post a photo so people could have a look?

Re: Syrian Hamster with a spot?
hi, thank you for your response!
Here's a photo of Lennie, apologies for the quality its been very hard to get a clear photo! It hasn't gotten any bigger since my post and doesn't appear to be bothering him, i'm very confused! From what i've researched it doesn't look anywhere near big enough to be a cyst/ abscess (unless its the beginning of one), and its not in a good place for me to feel but it doesn't seem like a tumour to me.

Thanks again!

Re: Syrian Hamster with a spot?
I wished i could advise or reassure but i have no idea what exactly this is. Maybe someone more experienced will be able to tell. If it were my hamster, i'd keep an eye on it but if it gets bigger, inflamed or itchy i'd definitely get a vet to have a look at it. Hopefully it will disappear by itself within the next few days.

Re: Syrian Hamster with a spot?
Thank you for your response! I think that's my plan, a friend suggested to just clean it with some salt water which i'm going to do when he wakes up and see if it gets any worse. I read that cysts can be very small and are usually not an issue, so if there no change I would think its that.
Thank you again!
