Default Hi - new Chinese hamster owner

Hi everyone,

I'm a fairly new hamster owner and have found this place really helpful over the past few weeks.

I thought I had done my research and knew what I was getting into - but clearly hadn't done enough. I now realise that trusting a very long standing and reputable local pet store was a bad idea - we were sold a pair of Chinese hamsters (sold only as a pair) on the understanding they needed to have company. I'm now having to do an emergency separation!

So I'm hoping to get stuck in, get some really good advice, and in time return that favour with what I have learned along the way

Welcome - Chinese hamsters never do well as pairs. Glad you have separated them. Take a look at moderator Vectis website for all things Chinese which may help you.

Welcome to HC & congrats on your new Chineseys
There is some bad advice out there but you've done the right thing for them now.

Thank you so much - and for the link to the Vectis Hamstery. I’ve not come across that site before and it’s brilliant, so helpful and reassuring! I’ve been doing lots of things instinctively like hiding and scattering their food for example so really pleased to know we are getting lots of things right!
