Help! 3 hamsters stucked in a vent
Hello guys. I came here to ask for expert ideas. My 3 dwarf hamsters were stucked in a 3inch dia. 10feet long vertical vent under a concrete wall. They could not climb and they have no where to go since the vent has p traps leading to sewer. I already dropped a long cable with cloth in the hope that they might be able to climb but to no avail. It's been 3 days now. I have been dropping food for them and I know they are still alive since I could hear their quarrels and chews. Could someone provide me options on how to save them? Any ideas will be much appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

I would stop dropping the food so that they have to climb up the rope to seek food. They should be able to do that without too much trouble. You need to watch for them coming up though. Maybe set up a bucket trap at the top and bait with something really tasty.

Re: Help! 3 hamsters stucked in a vent
So they have gone under the vent and dropped down somewhere is that right? Can you lower something easier to climb - eg some torn off material - like nylon that is easier grip. How about one leg of a pair of tights? And some cucumber and cheese at the top to tempt them up. Can you cut the vent open at the bottom so they can get out easily if they climb up? Or is it solid? The bucket trap at the top also is a good idea in case they climb up when you're asleep. If they have a cage with a front opening door you could also put that on the floor near the vent - the smell of their cage might tempt them back too.

Yup. The cloth (with the cable) is a towel material which should work for them. I already placed food pellets beside the open vent. I'll try cheese tonight. I will also place their cage near the vent. Thanks for the ideas.

Good luck. Just suggested smelly fresh food that would tempt them - eg cheese or cucumber.

Okay, I'm gonna go for this. I've been thinking about it. I just worry of starving them to death. But I'm running out of options. Thanks for the advice.
