Welcome to Nutmeg the syrian hamster
Dear all,
Just here to introduce Nutmeg! He was my final pre-lockdown trip out from a local petshop.
He's a 8 week old male syrian, very shy at present, but happy to eat treats offered by hand but not walk onto.
I've also attached his setup - alaska cage, trixie wheel, kaytee clean and cosy bedding, harry hamster food.
Very happy as I was planning getting one for the last few months

Nutmeg is so precious! Congratulations! I'm sure he's really going to cheer you up during these lonely times.
If he is eating treats out of your hand all ready that is a great sign. When I got my Georgie he was doing that after a couple of days and only a week or so later he was crawling right into my hand when he knows it's play time.
Great setup too! only suggestion would be some tunnels? But you may have some already I just cant see them! 😊

Thank you I put two toilet roll tubes in yesterday and he went in them multiple times! And nibbled one a bit. We'll keep collecting them and adding them - do you do anything extra with them to make them more fun?

Oh that's great, mine love toilet roll tubes too! I think they just love them how they are but you can sort of slot them together to make longer tunnels. If you crumple the end of one slightly so that it fits into the end of another one and then uncrumple it again from the inside once its slotted in then you dont have to use glue! 😊
I make lots of diy hamster toys out of cardboard and lolly sticks - I have attached a picture below you could maybe get inspiration from!

Re: Welcome to Nutmeg the syrian hamster
Congratulations to your new hamster! Nutmeg is gorgeous and its so refreshing to hear of a hamster finding a loving home in the current climate.
Does he have a big bottomless house that's sitting on top of the substrate so he can make a big cozy nest for himself and bury a hoard underneath?
