Default New Hamsters added to the furbaby population

Hi, I'm from Binghamton, NY. I'm 48 years old with wonderful husband and two adult children. I'm a full-time student currently while my husband is a factory shift supervisor at a Warehouse. We only returned to the US after living overseas for 10 years in my husband's country. We bought our home here 3 years ago when hitting America.

We brought with us our beloved chihuahua, Lollipop and added an adult rescue chihuahua, Bella. We have a third (and final) chihuahua baby boy, Grendel (to give some pep to our now 11 year old girls). We added 7 guinea pigs to our home the first year here (4 are my daughter's and 3 are mine-housed in separate large cavy cages between upstairs and downstairs). These babies are our loves; some were rescues while 3 surprises came from a missexing of the first two we got when we were very unknowledgable.

We recently lost one of our rescues (came to us with uri problems and has bounced back a couple times with vet care but just couldn't pull through the last one). We didn't want to add anymore but on the last trip to our local Petsmart, we fell in love with a little girl that wasn't finding a home like the other hamsters. She is a Syrian female about 4 months and we named her Matilda. She is the sweetest thing ever and the petsmart workers all knew her well; she had tons of interactions during her stay there. We got lucky with her as she is very used to being handled. We also came home with a baby Robo dwarf hamster that we named Princess (suited perfectly for her personality and white fur).

So we are still learning and purchased some improper supplies for our Syrian. After scouring this forum and other hamster lovers, we found the right cage (much, much larger then we anticipated), the right size wheel and supplies. We are only waiting for them to come in this weekend. I am finding tons of great info here and the threads are helping our new additions tons!
