Help with my Syrian
Hello
Newbie here so hopefully I'm posting in the correct place. My son bought a Syrian a few months ago now, she at first, was very loving and would come on our hands. She then started teeth chattering whilst biting her bars so we left her for a bit and she's gradually getting more used to us now. Over the last few days I'm beginning to think that she is in fact a he. I had hamsters when I was small and she seem to me, like a boy. But when I got him out this morning I noticed something on his bottom that wasn't there yesterday. Could anyone please tell me what this is or if its normal? I don't think it is and haven't noticed it before! Or on other hamsters I've owned. If not I will take a trip to the vet, he seems well in himself! I've tried uploading a photo so hopefully it's done it right.
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Help with my Syrian
the photo isn't showing but it sounds as if your hammie may have been incorrectly sexed at the pet shop. If you see a bulge and the back the the two vents underneath are quite far apart it will be a male you have. The testicles are quite mobile and can be pulled up in to the body when cold or scared and then they can drop down and protrude like peanuts when warm and relaxed.

Hello and thanks for your reply. I'm 99% sure it's a boy however it's the parts I'm unsure about. I will try putting the photo on again however it keeps saying it won't be posted.

Re: Help with my Syrian
Yes that looks to be a normal male hamster. The testicles are pushing against the skin so you can see them like peanuts under there. They may come and go a bit when he is cooler. He looks just fine.
