Default New hamster help

So I have a new little hamster, who seems very scared! He does play in his cage but quickly retreats to a hideout when I go in to have a peak! He is eating etc. However, because of this, I’ve not sussed out where he is peeing or pooping and worried about not spot cleaning but obviously don’t want to scare him anymore by disturbing his nest! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you x

I wouldn't worry about him, it's natural for new hamsters to act shy and scared at first. If he is only settling in he may be a bit nervous.
It is also possible that he has a hidden nest where he is going to the toilet. I've found with Bonnie, she only really poos in her nest or very close to the entrance of it, which is quite difficult to clean without disturbing her nest. But it's common for hamsters to 'go' in their nests as they spend a lot of their time there. (The plus side to this is that the rest of the enclosure stays pretty much clean. )
Hope this helps x

If you have only just got your hamster I wouldn't worry about spot cleaning, I tend to leave everything alone for a week or 2 when they are first settling in. Also if you leave it a little while it may be clearer where he is going to the toilet.

As a new hamster owner myself I can recognize the worry, but I'm sure as others say - he likely just needs time to settle in and get used to everything new to him, including you.
Luckily mine chose to poop in his sandbath which is easy to clean, but I'm sure he has a proper spot in his main house as well, which I haven't touched for two weeks and won't until I've successfully had him out of his enclosure a couple of times.

I wouldn't worry though, time and patience.
