Question Best cage for a syrian

hello, im curious as to what people think are the best cages for a syrian hamster. I just got a new baby girl a few days ago, i have hamster heaven for my other syrian and she loves it, so thinking of getting the savic syrian for my new one poppet? Shes also still quite skitterish, but thats understandable because its a new environment, so if anyone has any cage suggestions, id be happy to hear them.

My Syrian lives in the Alaska which i think is a very practical cage. The large front and top door make access so easy and its very reasonably priced. The base is deep allowing for enough substrate and the height is just right giving plenty of safe enrichment options for my height loving non burrowing male Syrian.

I loved the alaska for the big front and top doors, I replaced it with the Savic Plaza, purely for the extra length of the cage (100cm) But i really wish it had a big top opening as well. But I get by.

If you are on your own and want to attach a wheel you may need to flip the wired part of the cage upside down to do it, so you have access, otherwise it is impossible to attach on your own. Trixie wheels will just twist and attach, but silent runner type wheels are more tricky.

My perfect cage would be the Alaska if they made it 20cm longer.

The hamster heaven is an excellent cage with a nice big front door. Most people find it works best without the tubes and penthouse and just one of the shelves - to make room for a Syrian sized wheel. The height died limit what wheel you can use. Personally I upgraded to the Barney cage from Zooplus. The Alaska is also a good option and you can’t go wrong with the Alexander cage on Zooplus. Most people paint the wood items with plastikote water based enamel paint (pet safe) so they’re wipe clean but I have often just painted inside the house and not had the shelves pee’d on.

If you don’t have room for a 100cm cage as well I would get the Alaska cage. It has a bit more useable space than the Hamster heaven due to being just a bit taller so you can fit a 28cm wheel in easily. It also has a big front door. It’s a bit cheaper made than the Hamster Heaven but it’s a good cage. It’s also about the cheapest Syrian cage at about £34

I really liked my Ferplast Duna Fun (Large). Deep base so plenty of room for at least 5 inches of digging material, not overly expensive and good build quality. I have been looking at the IKEA Detolf DIY cages recently and seriously considering it.
