Default What to do with a new hamster at a party

Hey,

I recently moved in with a friend and boyfriend and last sunday got a hamster. Her home is in mine and my boyfriends room; it's an attic conversion so quite large. We're planning on having a house warming party in around 3 weeks and I'm wondering what to do with the hamster? I'm concerned as because our room is really large and has an en suit, I'm sure people will migrate up there. I'm worried about how the noise will affect her. My housemates have suggested putting her cage (bin cage) in our large cupboard so she's a bit more protected from the noise/new people, but I'm worried about this. Any ideas?

Are you in England or US? Not sure what you mean by cupboard. ..sometimes different localities refer to various things by different names. If cupboard refers to a large pantry style walk-in closet that you can keep dark with some white noise on low, I think that would be a great idea. But if cupboard is just a small cabinet, I personally wouldn't do that. Instead, I'd find a corner out of the way to place cage in and put a dark towel over the majority of the cage. Maybe block that area a bit if possible. I'm new to hamsters but have had quite a few pets as I'm in my 40s. I've also rehabbed wildlife. I find that the darker and quieter a space you can give them, the less stressed they are when company comes over

Hi!
Is there any room in the house that you can block off? If it's an attic conversion then is it kind of open plan? I agree that the darker and quieter the area the better, and another reason I would cover the cage is because whenever people come over to my house, they always say "aww can i stroke your hamster?" This might be different at a house party though! I'd provide some extra nesting material and maybe a healthy treat, just to make him feel comfortable.

Hope this helped!
