I just got my hamster today and I'm not sure if its a male or female.
How can I look I don't want to scare him/her?

When you have a new hamster, you should leave it alone for about a week , so it can get used to its home. I would wait until it is tame to try and sex it.
A lot of people here know more than I do and hopefully can help you.
if it is a male they should have relatively large testicles that you can see easily. something like this. if they don't, it's a female. but i would wait till you hamster settles in
I would make sure that your hamster is left for at least 2 days with no contact or interaction so that it can settle and get used to its surroundings then if its male he should have a large testical and if its female she will have small red circles on the underneath of her belly these are nipples I think they usually have 6 or 8 of them
