Default Mean Hamster help

I have female dwarf hamster that I have had for 3 weeks. I have been trying to tame her for 2 weeks. I have got in the tub with her so she can explore and get used to my scent, she was eating from my hand some. Now she runs to attack my hand every time I try to feed her, or try to pet her. She has bitten me 11 times and drawn blood every time. I am getting fed up with this.

What are the times that you feed or pet her? Is she asleep during the times when you try to interact with her?

How big is your cage? Some hamsters get aggressive if their cage is too small, but there are of course, some that are just aggressive in nature.

That's a bit mean to call a little hamster mean, lol!

Maybe she needs more time to settle in and doesn't like hands in her cage. She could be scared and bites because she feels threatened and not because she's aggressive by nature.

A human hand looks huge to a tiny creature like a dwarf hamster.

I'd scatter feed for a while and just talk to her softly. She may well sense that you are getting fed up with her which won't help things at all.

Enjoy watching her for a while, go easy on her and do things at her pace not YOURS.

Ria P...…….it's NOT mean to call her what she is. I have been trying to tame here for nearly 4 weeks daily, and nothing works...…….. came home from church, she was drinking water, so I put my hand in cage with a cheerio, she took it , then bit me hard.
Just a few minutes ago she was awake and out again, gave her a piece of Brocillli. She started eating it. I picked it up when she dropped it and was bit again drawing blood.
Her cage is a 110 qt bin cage 640 sq inches,so she has lots of room. I DO NOT wake her up.
If you can tell me what you would do it would be helpful.

She obviously does not like hands in her cage so don't put your hand in.
Daily interaction may be too much for her. Back off and give her a break is what i would advise you to do but that is only my opinion. I've only had a hamster since March so i'm no expert.
Couldn't you just watch her for a few days? Then take her out in a mug or something to do some more bath tub bonding without too much handling or stroking. Let her run over you so she gets used to you and put your hands in your pockets until she starts to trust you.
It can take months for a hamster to trust a human.

Maybe you have a look but don't touch hamster in which case you would have to accept her for who she is.

My hamster is a bit like that and likes his own company best.

You could try gloves (non-toxic kind) at first, if you are worried about her biting you, then she won't be able to hurt you.

Talk to her softly at all times, just let her get used to your voice in the background. Give her some tissue that has your scent on it, and try the bathtub bonding suggestion.

Please ensure your hands are freshly washed and do not smell like food. My hamster did nibble experimentally on our fingers, but she soon grew out of it when she realised our fingers aren't food.

Some hamsters don't like being touched, so maybe you don't have to touch her. Just watch her and enjoy her adorable ways. I could watch mine all day long, really!

Sophie and I are doing better.I finally figured out that she is cage territorial. I can now pet her when she eats, but use tube to get her out...…….I am determined to have a friendly hamster.

my boy is definitely a look but don't touch hamster. he'll take treats from my hands and allow me to stroke him when he's eating, but refuses to let me pick him up and hates being out of his cage.

it's just the way some hamsters are! glad to hear you are making some progress though!
