Hello and Thank you to Hamster Central!
Hello everyone! We adopted Skye a beautiful Syrian Hamster from PaH at the beginning of May, her previous owners returned her as they said she was aggressive which she is most certainly not! My youngest daughter loves animals and was desperate for a pet so I thought it was a good idea to get a hamster as I thought they would be easy to look after, Skye was my first pet too and I’m in my 40’s! Boy, was I wrong, she’s on her third cage which I had specially made, I’m embarrassed to say her first was a lazy bones pink cage thing which I bought because it looked ‘pretty’ looking and I had no idea about minimum cage sizes and what the hamster actually needed! I had sleepless nights over her in that one, we then moved her too a cavie 80 with a modified wire top and that was still too small for her, she loves running about. She’s now in a wooden cage which is not the best thing for cleaning but it’s bigger, it’s base is half a standard sheet of plywood 2 by 4 ft and she doesn’t chew the bars anymore. Anyway, she’s also had a cut on her foot from her hamster ball from PaH and she escaped from it last week whilst in the kitchen, she managed to get behind the sink and was missing for over 5 hrs, by some miracle she came Scratching into our room at around 1.30 in the morning, my husband couldn’t sleep from worrying about her and we had her back! Anyway I’m so grateful to the forum for all the helpful information we have gained from it, thank you!

Re: Hello and Thank you to Hamster Central!
I know that your post wasn't meant to be funny but it made me smile and gave me a real deja vú moment.
I also got the wrong cage, my hamster managed to get behind the sink, the feeling of guilt for not doing the right thing for my hamster that kept me awake at night.....
You are so not alone and like you, i have a lot to be thankful for to this forum...but.. we got it right in the end.
