Default Hello from Germany

Hi everyone,
I'm new here. I live in Germany and have owned dogs, cats and hamsters for many decades. I currently own two dwarf hamsters. One Winterwhite dwarf hamster boy and one Chinese Striped hamster girl - which of course technically isn't a dwarf hamster. But although she's already four months old she's tiny☺
I was delighted to see that Hamstercentral has an active community of Chinese hamster owners and breeders. While it's easy to get a healthy Winterwhite from private households or breeders, Chinese hamsters are very hard to find in Germany. There are not many breeders and only very few zoo shops have Chinese hamsters once in a while. There are hardly any rescues available. How is the situation the UK?
My Winterwhite boy is an adorable little fur ball and is completely tame. My Chinese girl is still a bit shy, although she isn't overly afraid of my hands. She recently started to approach my hands without fear, and she takes offered food.
I hope to get lots of good advice from you guys in the appropriate threads.
Cheers and have a nice weekend☺

Hi & welcome to HC
Your hams sound adorable, look forward to hearing more about them & seeing some photos.
The situation with Chinese hams is much the same here in the UK as it is in Germany, there are some good breeders but not that many & most pet shops stopped selling them some years ago now, not sure why but maybe they just didn't sell well although how anyone can resist one is beyond me!

Serendipity and Cypher,
Thanks for the Welcome☺
I lurked already extensively here☺ Especially in the Chinese hamster section since it's so hard to get reliable informations about that species. It's good to learn from first-hand experiences of hamster owners rather than generic and often unreliable informations distributed at pet sites.
I lover robos btw. They are extremely cute and funny. But right now I'm good with two hamsters. I always try to have tame hamsters because it's so enjoyable if they aren't afraid of my hands and it makes taking care of them so much easier. But it means of course to spend time with them. My Winterwhite Snowball is already very tame, although it took awhile to persuade him that my hands aren't food and shouldn't be bitten or nibbled at. He is very easy going now and one very active little fur ball. For my girl MuShu I opened a thread in the Chinese hamster section. She's still new at my home and I'm in the process of encouraging her to be more confident and learning to know her.
I will come up with some pictures soon.
