My Mysterious Prince of Denmark
Hello!
I was part of a different hamster forum for a time, and left after my darling dwarves passed on. But I have a new love now! He was named Hamlet by the rescue, and I know very little about him other than the awful way he was abandoned I've had him for almost a year now but never bothered to try to figure out his official coat colour. I thought it would be simple but it seems he may have some kind of less common gene? Whatever colour he is he's adorable and such a sweetie.

Re: My Mysterious Prince of Denmark
He's beautiful! So glad that he has a forever home with you where he'll be looked after.
I'm not well-versed in hammy genetics and colors, but I just looked up some things on hammy colors and I found another hamster that looked similar to yours- just the color on the ears and solid yellow-ish/white-ish everywhere else. So I think your ham has the Dominant Spot gene- all of the pigment concentrated on one area, in his case the ears. Typically if you search online for "dominant spot hamster" or something like that, you'll see hammies with actual spots of color in a concentrated area, such as part of their back or across the face. But it's not uncommon for there to be dominant-spotted ears.
Hope this answers your question about his genes/coat color. I know my explanation isn't a complete one but I think it's a step in the right direction.

Re: My Mysterious Prince of Denmark
My guess was dominant spot too! Or ivory? My mom does rubber stamping and colours all the hamsters in as white with grey ears because that's what she sees as normal hamster colouring. It's so funny to find out he's actually less common!
