Hi everyone.
Hi,
I thought I should finally say hello after lurking for a few weeks.
I don't have a hamster yet but hopefully will in about two weeks (fingers crossed!) I had a hamster called Mr Spig when I was a teenager and I remember how fun it and he was a great hamster. Luckily he lived to 3 and a half so I felt like I had him forever.
Also since my dog died last year at age 14, I have really missed looking after an animal, my flat isn't great for a new dog but a hamster is the perfect addition.
When I finally bring one home, I will post a photo.

Re: Hi everyone.
Hi & welcome to HC
Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog, it's always hard to lose a friend like that after so long.
I'm sure you'll enjoy having a ham again, look forward to hearing about him or her when they come home.

Re: Hi everyone.
Hello and welcome. Hamsters are wonderful pets Not sure how long it is since you were a teenager but a few ideas have changed in recent years on housing etc If you're looking for a cage, Zooplus have a good selection that are a good size, not expensive (mostly) and have free delivery. The Alaska, Barney and Alexander are popular for Syrian Hamsters, and the Savic Hamster Plaza which is sold by Pets at Home.
If you're getting a dwarf hamster there are other options

Re: Hi everyone.
Thank you both for the warm welcome!
It's been about 15 years since I've had a hamster and I can't believe how much has changed. Looking back at the information that was available from pet shops and books it's kinda horrifying! I remember even with my dog, information changes so rapidly so I know to always keep up to date now.
I have done plenty of research and got the Savic Plaza cage. I really wanted that huge front door.

Re: Hi everyone.
I envy you I would like one. Mind you your last hammy lived to a grand age so you must know how to look after them well!

Re: Hi everyone.
I got lucky and my sister had it spare since she upgraded her hamster to another cage so got family discount! I was very tempted by the eco living cage on zooplus though.Mr Spig was a one of a kind, my whole family was obsessed. We usually are with our animals.
