Hi new here
This is my daughters dwarf hamster cookie. Shes about 19 months old & unfortunately has a red sore looking ear. We are taking her to the vet on thursday evening so less than 48 hours time. I feel so bad that she may be uncomfortable and shes def alot quieter than usual, isnt coming out from her bed as much as usual.
We are not even sure what kind of dwarf she is as she looked so different from all the others in the pet store but my daughter was adament this was the 1 for her the day we choose her.
If anyone knows which kind she is id love to be able to tell my daughter as she always asks. Ill add a couple pics.
Thanks for reading

Re: Hi new here
Hi & welcome to HC.
Your daughters hamster is a Russian hybrid, a cross between the two Russian species, Campbell's & Winter White, no pure bred Russian species are sold in pet shops so you can be sure she'll be a hybrid.
Very sorry to hear she is unwell, she might have an ear infection which isn't that uncommon & usually responds well to treatment so hopefully she'll be better soon.

Re: Hi new here
Thank you for ur replies.
We took her to the vet last week and they said it def looks like an ear infection & by the time we arrived at the vets cookies condition had rapidly declined. She had went frkm just having a slightly red ear to having pus coming out her ear and a huge swelling just beneath her ear , it wasnt like that a few hours before.
Anyway we got given Baytril to put in cookies water and loxicom to put in her food.
Fast forward 1 week and she seems a lot happier and more her chirpy self abd the huge mass has went down loads but the ear is still quite inflammed looking altho not as bad and also now has a red lump beneath her ear ?
Should i create a new post in one of the other forums to put up pics of the ear for advise ?

Re: Hi new here
Good to hear that Cookie has improved on the meds but sorry to hear that she's still having problems & now has a lump there too, have you been back to the vets again?
I would start a new thread if you want advice on this issue, it's more likely to be seen & get you more help.
