Default New Hamster

Hellloo so I had a hamster named Harry who sadly passed away after 2 and a 1/2 years. He lived a happy life and I saw him grow up from a lil pink bean to a full grown hammy. After him I felt like I was ready for a dwarf hamster and I really wanted a winter white since they're a little bit similar in personality with syrians. When I got my new hamster the store said he was a winter white but I'm not too sure because he seems like a robo hamster since he runs really fast and I don't think I can pick him up at all. Can someone help ill add some pictures here as files. I prefer friendlier hamsters because I love holding them and petting them more than watching them. The pictures are a bit deceiving because he's way smaller than he looks. Also his name is Squishy so can someone please help me thank youu

He is looking suspiciously like a robo especially in pic 2 & 3 Baby robos can be exceptionally fast! Strange that the pet shop would sell you the wrong species though. If you wanted a cuddly hamster then a robo would be about the furthest from that unfortunately.

He is realllly fast! I can't even keep him in my room because of the noise he makes when he runs on the wheel. I have some more pictures and videos if it'll help determine if he's a robo. I asked the people in the pet smart and they said he is a winter white and the name under his cage said winter white. I even showed them a picture and they were like yeah its the same thing. I couldn't really tell the difference, but is there a way to distinguish baby winter whites from robos because they look very similar when they're babies. I know winter whites are less faster than robos but usually they're all sleeping when I go to the store. https://youtu.be/Q9v1gFisRN8

He does look and act like a robo, which as MangoandMimi said, is the least cuddly species unfortunately. They’re great pets to watch though!

Yeahh i think he's a robo now but thing is I have a hamster as an emotional support animal so I need one that I can pet and basically love and take care of without it being scared of me. I might just get a winter white or syrian depending on if i find a winter white or not. But since my question is answered I have another one: How can I tell if the hamster is a winter white or not? Because robos and winter whites look really alike and its hard to tell at the pet store if they're misplaced.

Can’t think why he would be in with the winter whites if you got him from the main sales tanks, he is acting like a robo in the video too. I wouldn’t say pearl winter whites and white robos look particularly similar even as babies, he is definitely not a winter white though. The shape & colour of them are entirely different you’ll have to look at a few comparisons to know, you’d usually find a winter white with agouti colouring probably in which case there would be three stripes visible which is entirely different to any robo colourings.

Whatever you find in a pet shop will be a hybrid of Campbell & winter white but if you are after one with more winter white traits then you’re looking for any of the agouti, sapphire or pearl colourings and nothing else. As you can see they’re quite different to the robo colourings which are further up.

Yeahh i was confused too I thought they would be a little bigger but then they were like no this is a winter white. Thing is he was sitting alone in a tank there was no other hamster with him. They even wrote winter white on the buyer/adoption sheet. When I go to the petsmart ill let them know and see if any of the winter white hamsters that are in the link match up. Thank youuu

White robos are pretty rare in a lot of pet stores so they probably saw a white dwarf hamster and assumed winter white.
