Default Hamster leaving a strange trail?

I’m so concerned because I’ve just got a new hamster and I’ve had her for a few weeks and I spotted something in her cage. I’m a new owner so I don’t know if this is normal or not. I’d really appreciate some help because I’m really fretting a bout it! I included a picture but it is like this all over the cage!

Hmm - hard to tell from the photo but I had something similar in clear tubes with a new hamster. I’m still not sure if it was pee or scent marking. It was creamy yellow. It looks a bit brown on your photo - could it have food or bedding stuck to the liquid? The other thing with a female is they can get infections in lady areas but there looks rather a lot of it for that. Tubes in cages really don’t work that well for hamsters as they pee in them and try to nest and hoard in them and it ends up a big stinky mess. External tubes are also an escape route. Do you have a photo of your cage to suggest if tubes could be removed or set up changed to encourage nesting in the cage?

Does she seem ok in herself. No bad smells (like off smells). Female hamsters can get a slightly musky smell when they’re on heat and that’s normal.

Thumbs up Re: Hamster leaving a strange trail?

Thank you for replying, you can take the tubes of but it leaves massive holes in the side, plus she never usually hoards in the And still doesn’t, she just had suddenly created this. I got my brother to look after her while I took the tubes of and cleaned them out, the colour is a bright yellow but in the light it looks darker, but there was some bedding mixed in. Because it had actually hardened I assumed it was wet food that she had dragged across? No, no off smells and we doubled checked and there’s nothing rotting or anything, but thank you so much!

It looks like pee probably mixed up with other stuff she's trailed through there to me.
If she seems fine in herself then that's most likely what it is.
I agree about the tubes.

Okay, thank you for your advice, I was just worried because she means so much to me and I would be deviated if something happened to her! I will head into the pet shop today and see what I can do about the tubes! Thank you so much
