Exclamation Meet Pumpkin!

Hello! I got the fattest, cutest and fuzziest hamster for Christmas! I named her pumpkin because of her size and color.

Although, she has been acting sorta odd. She:
~Chews on the metal bars of her cage, therefor wearing down her teeth too much. This also is bad because she could escape through any big enough hole she makes.
~Stuffs all the bedding from her "attic" down the tube, leaving nothing but stored food in the small space. Hamsters are supposed to sleep in the bedding, but she seems not to like it. I cleaned out the tube with a coat hanger so she could get down the tube. Has anybody else had this happen?
~She doesn't bite me when I try to pet her, instead she twists her chest upward facing me and puts her paws up. This is really cute, but also kinda weird.
Please write back if you are experiencing any of the same things! Thx!

Welcome to HC & congrats on getting Pumpkin.

Your photo doesn't seem to be showing up for some reason. This thread will help if you're having problems with that.
How To Embed Photos

If you only just got her for Christmas she will still be settling in but bar chewing is often a sign of boredom so you may need to make some changes to her cage so she has plenty to do, if you could post a photo of your cage set up we may be able to make suggestions to help.
There's also a thread on bar chewing here that might help.
Managing Bar Chewers
Which cage do you have, is it the hamster heaven? Tubes & penthouses like those on the hamster heaven cause a lot of problems especially with new hamsters & it's best to remove the tubes etc & just block them off with the blockers provided then provide a good size house with no base on the substrate for them to sleep in, a shoebox can make a good house if you don't have one yet or a similar size cardboard box with no base & a small door cut into one side.
