Re: New here but well seasoned with hamsters
Thanks all. hamsters all doing great and our adopted lil boy had his first run in his ball today, sadly he’s not had much handling but I’m slowly working on it .ive bought him a 4ft bin cage which his 3 crittertrails will be added to as well I love the looks of these cages and don’t have the heart to discard them, just to bad they are to small and the fact my fat Syrian will get lodged in the pipes if I dared put him in one

Re: New here but well seasoned with hamsters
Please don’t put dwarf hamsters in balls, their feet can easily slip and get caught in the vents! Robos especially can also feel claustrophobic and go into panic mode when put in a hamster ball

Re: New here but well seasoned with hamsters
I agree with alpacassei. Hamster balls are not safe for any species of hamster.
Like alpacassei said, dwarf (and Chinese) hamsters and sometimes Syrians can get their feat easily stuck in the vents of the ball. Hamster balls also provied poor ventilation. They also tend to be way to small. If a ball is to small, you will see them arch their backs. Long term, this can lead to arthritis and other hip problems which are no fun as your hammy ages. They also are very stressful for your hammy. They will have no where to hide if they get scared. They really do go into a panic mode.

Re: New here but well seasoned with hamsters
Thanks for the advice on the balls fortunately my hamsters don’t use balls often as I have a playpen for them but occasionally they have to go in the ball for safety reasons as we have cats and 2 young children, the hamsters are closely supervised.buster our adopted robo,s bin cage is coming on great and have managed to combine 2 of the crittertrails with the bin I will post pics in another thread soon, crittertrail one day I’m sure will build a bigger enough cage for hamsters instead of micro homes 😒
