Hello from California, USA
Hi, I found this forum recently and wanted to say hi! I just bought my kids a winter white dwarf hamster from a large pet store chain (so after reading many posts here, I'm beginning to think I really have a hybrid). Anyway, his name is Hammond (Overwatch fans here) and we brought him home last weekend. I took him home in a criter trail cage, which I've learned is much too small, so I ordered a larger cage called a ferplast, approximately 30x24 with two levels, a large bin on the bottom to fill with bedding for tunneling and an upper level for houses and wheels and food etc..
We were told he's a male, so we hope that is correct, I'll check once he's comfortable with us. So far he's eating and drinking fine and seems to be pretty tame. We're not taking him out yet unless we have to when cleaning. But when I scoop him up he's calm. IMG_2046.JPG
I appreciate all the info here, and hope to learn how to take good care of this little guy.

Welcome to HC & congrats on your new ham, he looks really sweet
You're right to think he will be a hybrid so you do need to take care with his diet as they are prone to diabetes.
I'm sure he'll enjoy the larger cage, just wanted to say that the house should be on the substrate with no base so he can burrow down & make a nest rather than on the shelf.

Hi and welcome to HC!
Your little Hammond is lovely! Like cypher said, he is a Hybrid ham (or called a Russian). Most, if not all, dwavesf from petstores are hybrids. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to ask!
