Hello to All
Hi
My story - My friends children have pets and whenever they go on holiday, I look after the critters - two guinea pigs, a chinchilla and a bearded dragon. Well this spring they added a new member to the family .. a small Russian hamster! In June they were away for a week and I was in charge ... by the end of the week, I was considering animal theft. LOL I just loved that little Russian and even though I hadn't had a pet in years I knew I wanted one.
So I did my homework which is when I found this site. Its been amazing for learning everything there is to know about hamsters. I log on every day to learn something new. As it turns out, a hamster is actually a great fit for me. I leave the house at 6:00am and don't return until around 7:30pm and here is a little creature that not only doesn't need constant company but he's going to be asleep anyway!
On July 23rd I brought little Theodore home and its been great right from the start. He's a happy little guy who sleeps all day and plays all night. I've built him a 100cm by 60cm play box out of good old untreated, kiln-dried Canadian pine - filled it with toys and wheels and tubes and forts - where he plays every night from 10:00pm to 5:00am ... at this time I bring him back to his house where he's usually asleep by 5:30 .. and boy is he a sound sleeper ..
He's a very friendly sort - and taming has been very easy. He's not afraid of me and will even come to the side of play box anytime I look over at him. I've only had him for two months but I can't imagine not having him around!
So thanks again to all at Hamster Central who have helped with this transition.

Re: Hello to All
Hello, fellow Canuck. I also recently adopted a little hamster (Syrian) after ham-sitting for my cousin. They really do win you over. Congrats on your new addition.
