Just beginning !
Hello, glad to be a member.
I have many pets among them are a Bearded Dragon, Chinese Water Dragon, Vailed Chameleon, Crested Gecko, and a Red Eyed Tree Frog . All are doing well. So I thought I would like to try something I could hold and train. I'm getting the habitat ready, a 30x18 Critter Trail ,and have picked out a Short Haired Syrian hamster at the pet shop. I should get him in a few days. So I probably will be in contact with you.
Regards
Ron

Re: Just beginning !
Hi Ron - welcome to the forum and to being a hamster parent! You are going to love having a Syrian. I am sure that more experienced posters will comment, but I think the cage you described is to small for a Syrian. If you are in the US, there aren't many good cages for Syrians, so a lot of people recommend aquariums. I myself made the mistake of having too small a cage, but have since upgraded to a 55 gallon aquarium. Make sure to check the Housing section on this board - it is really helpful! Congrats on your hammy! Can't wait to hear updates!

Re: Just beginning !
Hello welcome.
Lovely lot of reptiles you have. I’m sure you’ll love syrians too. I think that cage is the 540 square inch one? If it is, the cage sounds fine - I’m actually interested to hear how you find it as I don’t think we have it here.
Looking forward to meeting little one!

Hi and welcome to HC!
That’s really great that you have so many reptiles. I haven’t, or will be, owned reptiles yet but I’m very fond of crested and gargoyles! Are you getting that new critter trail that is 540 sq. in? I have not seen it in stores yet but that’s great to hear! Tell us what you think of it! Keep us updated on your future ham. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to ask!

He's a short haired Syrian and he seems to be doing fine. He's seems to be fearless and friendly.
Thanks
Ron

Re: Just beginning !
Unless you are using metric measurements, your cage is a great size! I am also about to get a hamster, this is my first post!!!

I have the new 540 and he seems to love it. After reading all about it needing to be at least 450 it seemed perfect and is . The only problem is I didn't check the space between the bars. They are too big . They should be 1/4 inch but are to large. They make two types , one for large critters and one for small. I picked the wrong one. I fixed it by adding half inch screen to it and now it's fine ,he can't get out, but he's still trying.
Thanks
Ron

Re: Just beginning !
Hi everyone.
The little guy seems to be doing fine. Sleeps most of the day , only coming out to eat and then back home. He still loves to climb the side of the cage to the top and starts biting the metal cage. I guess he thinks he can get out. I hope he grows out of it. Other than this new great.
Ron
