Default Back to hamster owning after many years

Hi I am Liz and I was last a member of this forum back in 2009, which was the last time we had a hamster. Myself and my daughter (15) have today acquired a Syrian hamster who has been named Dora the Explorer.

Dora is in a hamster heaven cage. She has been spending her time so far climbing everything. I have had several hamster before but I have never seen one actually using the top bars of the cage like monkey bars! I think we are going to need to be very careful about keeping the cage firmly shut...

I am happy to have a pet in my life again after quite a few years and my daughter is now old enough to take responsibility for most of the day to day care which is nice.

Not sure how to add a photo, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Congratulations on your new pet! I love the hamster heaven, a great cage with good access.

I have my hybrid dwarf Popcorn in mine.

Thanks. Still can’t upload, it says something about file size but I don’t understand what I need to do. I am on an iPad if that helps.

Dora is still busy testing her cage for any gaps to squeeze through. Let’s hope she doesn’t find one!

You need to resize the image to whatever the maximum is on the attachment page. The ‘Image Size’ app is good for resizing.

An easy way to resize is to email the photo to yourself, select small in the email image options then use the copy in the email to upload.

all ours are monkey-barrers. its amazing what gymnastics those tiny arms can achieve. i have to be careful that theres nothing underneath that will hurt them when they drop down.

Hi and welcome back to HC!
Congratulations on Dora! Her name really seems to fit her because if her monkey baring! Like Ruth said, it is very typical for hams to use their bars as a playtoy. Make sure she can’t fall off anything to high. I’m looking forward to seeing more about her!
