Choosing a new hamster
Hi newby here, last Saturday I took our 36month old Syrian to the vet to be pts. Very sad day but he had developed severe swelling of the abdomen and was starting to struggle. On examination the vet could feel tumours on the liver and said the only option was to put him to sleep. He had a good life and a fairly long one and it was for the best.Im now looking for a new hamster but I want another grey Syrian but they seem hard to find.Lots of brown ones but no grey.Im in the U.K so can anybody advise of breeders who breed these colours?

Re: Choosing a new hamster
I’m so sorry to here about your loss. It is so hard to loss a ham and it sounds like you two were very close. You gave him a great life and I’m sure he loved every moment of it! I understand how devistanting this must be and I’m sending you huge hugs to get through this hard time.
As I do not live in the UK I don’t know any breeders that have grey hams. I completely understand why you want a specific colored ham but I would suggest adopting one as there are so many hams who need a home. I think Pets at Home has adoptable hams or look at your local rescue.

Re: Choosing a new hamster
I completely agree with Sasha04. While it’s completely normal to want specific colored hamster, there are many who need homes as well and it’s sad to think that they won’t get another chance at life because they don’t look a certain way

Re: Choosing a new hamster
Sorry to hear about your ham, he lived to a great age but it is always a very sad time.
I think Vectis breeds greys so you could contact her & find out about availability & waiting lists etc.
