New hamster question
Hi! Our family just brought home an albino Teddy Bear hamster yesterday. This is our first hamster and we are excited. He’s actually about 4 months old, as he was in the pet store for longer than most because of his red eyes. Fortunately my daughter loves red and we think he’s adorable. My question is this, I’m wondering if this behavior is typical or maybe just him adjusting. He is spending lots of time on his wheel. He was on it from 8pm to 10pm and again when I checked him at 6:30am. Since 6:30am he has been running on it and it’s now 1:40pm. I thought he would be resting since they are nocturnal. He’s eating and pooping, maybe he’s just energetic? Just curious when Syrians typically sleep and hoping he’s not nervous! Any thoughts?

Re: New hamster question
Welcome to HC & congrats on getting your first ham!
Young hams can go a bit mad on the wheel especially if they haven't had one before but this does sound just a bit excessive. They will run on the wheel when stressed & nervous so it could be partly that as he's new.
What kind of cage set up & house does he have?
Make sure he has a nice dark house to sleep in with loads of shredded up plain white toilet tissue to make a nest so he feels comfortable & secure.
