Hi thanks everyone so much! So I am still trying to figure out the site since Im trying to quote things so I can reply to everyone individually but for some reason all the things coding I use on other blogs in not working.

Thank you to everyone who congratulated me on Phi. I actually have a lot of questions, mostly how to get her used to me cause everytime she sees me she hides. Even though if I have a treat she will take it out of my hand.

I am actually still really excited about her, especially because how I got her. So when I first decided I wanted a hamster I went to petco everyday to try and figure out what one I wanted, all the stuff I needed, and everything I thought I needed to know about being a good mom/owner to a hamster. In New York I couldn't find any breeders so I thought the store would know what they were talking about. Most of the info was wrong but I have learned now. So they kept telling me about this hamster I named him Sigma, so to answer if Phi is named for the Greek letter yes she is. He was brought back to the pet store after being at someones home for a few months since they he impregnated their other hamster. They were going to hold him for me cause he was a Chinese dwarf and they didnt sell them at the store. So after I get everything later, I thought he was still at the vets I go back to get him and they sold him. They didnt tell me they sold him they just tried to sell me a different breed and say it was the same hamster. Later that night I found out the only place they sell chinese dwarfs was in a petsmart a bit far from where I live. So I went there and the cages they had them in were so small they couldnt fit more than a water bottle and a den. Phi was in the corner her face smushed up against the back and looked fairly miserable. I decided that she was the one I had to have cause I wanted to show her a better happier life. I think that she likes it better with me. But she is still very shy.

I’m glad Phi is with you now! If she is hiding I would try holding the treat between your fingers and putting it in front of the opening of the hide. When doing this, make sure not to croud her and let her venture out to you in her time. If you keep repeating every day when she is awake, she should become more and more used to you. When she is happy to be eating out of your hand, you should have no problem if you lay you hand down, palm facing up, with a few treats on it. If she is not terribly frightened of you, she will proble eat the treats with in stretching distance then maybe start placing her paws on your hand. Keep in mind all hams will take a difrent time to be tame. My past ham Comet was very friendly and trusting of me when I got him. My current ham Libby who I’ve had for almost two months has just started fully trusting me and will climb on my hand. It really can be anywhere to a few day, weeks, or even months! I hope she will start to trust you! Please keep us updated on her taming progress.

Oh, I forgot to menshion she may not enjoy the treats you are giving her. Lots of hams love mealworms, pumkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds (linseeds), and fresh veg especially!
