Yes I did mean wood shavings!! I use the standard one you get from Pets at Home, so that's all fine. For bedding I use straw, but I also have these soft white square things? I have no idea what they are, only that my hamsters love them, and will carry little bits around with them.

It sounds like paper bedding to me. Is it the stuff P@H sell with the crinkly edges?

Do you mean straw or hay Careba? Straw shouldn't be used for hams & if you use hay you need to freeze it for about a week in case of bugs or mites then remove sharp bits that may damage pouches.
Best to just use shredded up plain white toilet tissue for nests/bedding, you ham will love it & you can be sure it's totally safe.

Yeah, that's the stuff. Vin and Nugget live for it, as soon as I put more in, or change it, they roll around and snuggle in it. It's so wholesome.

I used the hay for about a day, before taking it out. I'm pretty sure that it was aggravating Vin, because since I removed it she's not itched once.

I made sure to freeze it, yeah, and picked out the nice bits they could use, yeah. But I still don't like it, at all. I'm sticking to the regular soft bedding.
