How often to clean hamster's cage?
Hi,
I used to clean my hamster's cage once every week. But recently, I got very busy so I cleaned her cage once every other week. Is that ok? I want my hamster to be healthy and happy as possible. I also don't want any infections or germs or bacteria to make her sick. Is it alright if I clean her cage every two weeks or do I need to just clean it every week?
Thanks

Re: How often to clean hamster's cage?
Depends how big your cage is - if you spot clean or your hamster is litter trained you can go over a month without doing a full clean. Every week is a lot and don’t think it’s necessary.
Syrians you’ll have to do more often - For then I used to do every 4 weeks I think. Now I do a full clean every 8 weeks roughly for my dwarf in a larger cage but could easily go longer.
Lots of people also re use half the bedding which you can do if you have deep bedding that hasn’t got wet, that cuts down on bedding a lot. Just clean the house and toilet if she has one, more regularly and it shouldn’t smell.

mangoandmimi pretty much said it. I agree and think spot cleaning really helps. My ham dosen’t pee in a corner but rather on his wheel, hide, and mug. Spot cleaning really dose help.
