Hello everyone!
Hi everyone! I’m still really new at this hamster thing. I’ve had Ivy for about a week now. I’m trying to figure out different ways to bond with her as well as tame her. Suggestions and advice are welcome. 😇

Re: Hello everyone!
Hi & welcome to HC
Congrats on getting Ivy!
Each ham is an individual so how you tame & bond with them depends to some extent on what they enjoy most so a bit of trial & error! What have you tried so far?

Re: Hello everyone!
Hi and welcome to HC! Ivy is such a cute name and just out of curiosity, what species is she? Like cypher said, each hamster has their own preference on taming and bonding. To get my hamster use to my scent, (as I am still in the taming process as well with my new ham) I like to rub my hands on plain, unscented tissue and put it in his cage so he can use it as nesting material. Their are quite a few taming methods and I found that YouTube (I would recommend erinsanimal) has some pretty good ones. Just try to figure out what is best for your ham! If you have some more questions feel free to ask!

Re: Hello everyone!
I’ve tried letting her run around on my bed, closely watched so she doesn’t fall. I’ve also tried holding her and just petting her. She’s been all over the house in her ball, which is good cuz she’s getting used to her environment. One thing I read said to put towels down in the bathtub and sit in there with her and let her climb on me and get used to my scent. Haven’t tried that one yet. I have been giving her 2 carrot slices a day and we also got her some toys to chew on. As far as her breed, she’s a 3 month old Syrian/Teddy Bear hamster.

Re: Hello everyone!
Having her on your bed is fine as long as she can't fall, if you sit with her & let her climb on you she will soon get used to you, this is similar to the bath tub method although with the bath you can probably put toys & things to explore in a bit more easily than you can on the bed, a playpen works just as well too, anywhere safe that she can interact with you is good.
She won't really be getting used to her environment in the ball as she won't be able to see or smell anything so having her out in a safe open area where you can interact with her is much more beneficial, safer & more enjoyable for her.
