Hallo! New hamster on board
Hi there,
Got my hamster yesterday. He is an adorable creamy brown Syrian. So far he has been settling in great! I was really surprised how active and curious he was straight away as I had been doing loads of research before I got him and was prepared for him to go into his little house straight away and stay in there for a day or two. Delighted he didn't though. He's a very busy little fella. He's asleep at the moment now and has been since this morning.
Naturally enough though I understand he's nervous. If he hears a loud or strange noise he freezes on the spot for a second and then continues on.
I was just wondering how many days should I leave him to himself before trying to tame him? So far, I've left him to his own devices pretty much. Once or twice I had to just put my hand into his bin cage just to adjust a few things, but I haven't tried to handle him yet (didn't want to stress him more). I also waited till he was the other end of his bin cage before adjusting whatever I needed to. Saying that though, he doesn't appear to bothered and he doesn't even freeze if I lift the lid off and put my hand in, all of which I'm taking as good indicators of his confidence.
Any advice ye can give me would be greatly appreciated as I really want to give this little guy the happiest, healthiest and funnest life I can.
Ps. I've named him Ludo after my favourite pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi.
