Can I get a new hamster or will it fight?

I want to ask if I bought a hamster a few months ago and I am buying another one tomorrow. Will they have a big chance of fighting?

Absolutely! There is no way you can introduce a new hamster to the one you already have, to do so would risk serious injury & possibly death, please don't take that risk.

Definitely 100% don't do it.

Most species of hamsters can't live together, and those which can need to be an established pair. You'll also need to have two of everything in the cage to avoid territory disputes.

If you do decide to get a second hamster, get a second cage and keep them apart. Your current hamster and new hamster would be far happier alone.

Hi and welcome to HC! I agree with what the other members have said. Yes, you certainly can get another hamster. However, if you do decide to get a second one, getting a second cage and having them never interact with one another is imperative and the only way to ensure that they are both alright.

As everybody else said, we cannot stress enough how much of a bad idea keeping these hamsters together would be. Of course it is absolutely wonderful if you get another hamster just make sure they have no interaction what so ever

Everyone has said it all really

But just to add that they need to be separate at all times, even if living in their own cages (ie you can't have them out of the cage together playing in a pen or free roaming either). Some people think they need a "friend" but they are territorial creatures and do absolutely fine on their own - you are their friend.

What species/cage have you got at the moment? Just thinking that space can be an issue with two cages (although some can be stacked) and hamsters need a cage around 80cm by 50 cm floorspace really.
