Question Hamster Interaction

Hiya!
I am recently a new hamster owner, the first hamster I have ever owned. I’m wondering whether it would be okay for me to start interacting with him/her (I do not yet know which gender they are). Today would be my second day with them. I am asking because I have heard that due to the fact that they are prone to being easily stressed that you leave them alone to settle for a few days. I’ve left him/her alone for the two days that I have had them and was wondering whether it would be okay. I’ve been talking to them throughout these two days and they seem to be quite calm and curious. They have allowed me to stroke them while they’re eating and sniff my hand through the cage bars. They also sniff any food I may hold out to them and seem relatively comfortable if my hands are in the cage sorting out anything. I have a ramp leading to a level and they seem extremely comfortable as I hold the ramp to make it a tad easier for them to come down, even going under my arm! They do make a sort of clicking/ licking sounding noise quite often, is this a cause to be alarmed?
Would you say it’s a good time to start interacting, or say leave it a tad longer?
Thank you!

Welcome to HC & congrats on your new ham

It sounds as though you're interacting already with your ham & s/he is very comfortable with you & settling in well, there are no hard & fast rules with taming/bonding, just go at your hams pace, the clicking sound is perfectly normal, if your ham backs off or has it's ears down then that would be a sign that it's nervous & not comfortable with what you're doing but s/he sounds fine, just slowly move on with each stage now.

Hiya!
Thank you so much for the reply! I was a bit hesitant since the last thing I want is to stress them. You’ve reassured me ☺️ I noticed that you’re from Wales. I am too!
Thank you again.

Hi and welcome to HC. Congrats on getting your new hammies! It appears that your little ones are already really comfortable with you and settling in nicely. As Cypher mentioned, there really isn't any definite timetable for when to begin taming sessions. The hams determines when taming should start based on their comfort level and receptiveness to interacting with you. I would suggest beginning with taming at a very slow pace and continue to let your hams determine when it is time to move on to the next stages. Have fun and good luck. Btw, have you chosen names for them already?

I’m so sorry! I’m so misleading. I own 1 hamster by the name of Puff. I refer to them using plural pronouns (e.g. they) as I do not yet know Puff’s gender.
