Thank you very much Cypher, you're an absolute super star!

Things escalated this morning with the two girls and Flora ended up pinning down and attacking Mallow and caused some small wounds so we split them up. I have a feeling that the Tikki House caused some major upsets since Flora made a nest under the house in the substrate, and Mallow wanted to live in the house above the substrate. I had a feeling they were on bad terms since Flora evicted Mallow from the Tikki house yesterday in a big huff.

After the ambush Mallow was in shock in her coconut, and Flora was running around really spooked and upset so we moved her back into the original cage. We're looking at ordering an Alexander cage on my lunch break since it has a deep pan so we can stuff it with substrate so Flora can dig to her hearts content. We're probably going to take off the upper levels since she has no awareness of heights and has literally walked off some of the toys and landed head first into her bedding (she's definitely not the brighter of the two).

I have a feeling she's going to attempt to climb the bars, if there anything I put in to dissuade her from doing that?

No problem

It always seems a bit of a shame when they have to be separated but they'll both be much happier now once they've had a chance to settle again.

The Alexander is quite a tall cage, you can put small ledges like lava ledges or other small shelves on the bars almost like steps around the cage so they can climb up onto those & run around but it is still difficult to prevent bar climbing & you have to be really careful there's nothing hard to land on if they do climb, they're quite good at climbing up but not down so they often just let go!
Have you thought about the hamster heaven cage, it's not as big as the Alexander but it's also not so high so there's much less danger of falls, if you do consider it it's best used without the tubes & penthouse, blockers are supplied for the holes.

ETA For some reason I was thinking of Russians rather than robos when I suggested the hamster heaven, sorry! The bar spacing is probably a bit too big for robos, but the Savic Mickey which is virtually the same cage with narrower bar spacing is another option, it is more expensive though.

I found adding an extra ramp stopped my dwarf hamster jumping off the shelf in my Barney cage. He goes up one ramp along the shelf and down the other ramp now.
