Red face Hamster in Guinea Pig Hutch?

Hello!

I went to Pets are Home today and saw a lovely hutch that I could fit in my room. The spacing between the bars was tiny - I could just get my pinky finger through it (it was mesh style).

I was wondering if it would be suitable for a Syrian Hamster? I had a Syrian a couple years ago and had the Hamster Heaven Cage, but wanted to upgrade for my next one!

Thankyou,
Mollie

The hamster heaven is a great cage, why not just experiment with the layout?

Do you have a link or a picture of the guinea-pig cage you are referring to? This will enable us to confirm whether it safe or not to use for a Syrian.

If it is a wooden hutch. I would be worried that the hamster could chew it and possibly escape.

It is impossible to say without seeing it.
If it has doors that open at the front then you may not be able to put a deep enough layer of substrate in without it falling out.
If it is wood then first you would need to check it was safe wood & it may need painting with plastikote to pee proof it.
As SKB said a link would help.
Hutches aren't usually cheep so I'm guessing you could probably get a really nice big cage for the same price or maybe cheaper which would most likely be more suitable.

Just a little update:

Thankyou all for your replies, I realised a couple hours after posting that there would not be enough room for substrate and if i did get it I would spend the whole time concerned about the Hamster either escaping or chewing through the hutch. So instead I will probably get the Barney Pet cage, it’s pretty big and has brilliant reviews.

Xx
