Post Introducing Me-self

First forum I've ever joined, and only because Google always leads me here. So hello from Canada! I adopted a Syrian hamster (my 5th) a week ago and he seems to be doing well, but he's been making gurgling sounds since yesterday. Little bit of research tells me it was either his new food (though I switched it gradually), or a broccoli floret I gave him 2 days ago. It might have been a bit too big. One article said broccoli was good in moderation, while another said to avoid it because it gives them gas. So hopefully this forum can help make future ham research a bit easier. He seems happy right now, but I'll be watching for 'signs.'

His name is Dewey btw

Hi & welcome to the forum

Broccoli is just fine for hams in small amounts, it may be that you gave a little too much, it's best to just give a tiny piece of veg once every few days until they get used to it & then gradually build up to a small piece daily, I'm sure one larger piece won't have done any harm though!

Thanks! And update: the gurgling has stopped and he's all good now. I've never given a hamster broccoli before (I don't normally eat it myself), so I'll keep this in mind for the future.
