New hamster owner!
Hi everyone! I joined this forum a few months back, when I was interested in getting a hamster but didn't really know much about them. After months of preparation and research, I finally got my new ham Meet Simon! I also attached a picture of his bin cage setup.
I want to invest in some new toys, because he's ignoring the ones I have for him.. Please recommend toys that I can buy through Amazon! I want him to have an engaging home
Ps.
I tried embedding photos from Flickr, but it didn't seem to work, so I attached them instead. I hope this works!

Re: New hamster owner!
Hello! Welcome! Simon is a real fluffy cute ball with his handsome skirt!! Can't get my eyes off him~~
Your cage looks awesome! It is big and clean~ Considering that you just got him, it is understandable not to have too many toys to overwhelm him at first. You will get some other toys and hideouts once he is getting used to the cage and to his new life. And I am pretty sure you are planning on the new constructions for his cage later.
I have built or reconstructed the cages for my hamsters as time goes by and they really enjoyed their new elements after they kinda get too used to the previous ones.
Good luck with your and Simon's new life together~ He is a beautiful boy

Re: New hamster owner!
Congrats on getting Simon, he looks adorabel!
Your cage does look fairly empty so plenty of space for more toys, bendy bridges are great, that can be climbed on, used to access higher areas if you make shelves & can be used as hideouts too, you could use simple things like small cardboard boxes as hideouts & a large cardboard box with no base can make a good house too, it's hard to see from the photo if his current house is big enough.
They like things to climb on (safely!) hideout in & things to chew, whimzee/antos dog chews are the big favourite there!
I'm sure syrian owners will be able to give you better toy suggestions than I can!

Re: New hamster owner!
Thank you!! He's super cute and sweet. I've only had him for a week, but he's already taking treats from me. He even steps on my hand to take seeds from my palm <3 I'm totally smitten. I can't wait until he lets me pick him up!
Thank you for your cage and toy suggestions. I just bought a bendy bridge and another climbing toy from Amazon. I also found a couple cut DIY slides and climbing walls that I'm going to build asap.
Oh also, I'm using a tissue box as a house for him right now. He likes to crawl inside, and he seems comfortable in it. I cut the back out, so I can see him when he's inside. He dug himself a den in another corner of the cage though.

Re: New hamster owner!
He looks lovely and he is doing well with taming. A container can put in the corner where he pees. Add some substrate he has peed on and hopefully he will use it as his toilet. It can make cleaning easier.
Tunnels are enjoyed by most hamsters. It could be a cardboard tube from inside toilet paper or kitchen paper towels with a slit cut from end to end. You can also buy thicker cardboard tubes for hamsters/wicker tubes/grass tubes etc.
A bigger platform or large flat topped house would be nice and you can put things on top of the roof.
