Hamster Dancer Intro
Hello hammy parents. My name is Lelu and I am a first-time hamster mom in my adult life. I had hamsters throughout grade school as a child, but that barely counts. My husband and I are from Vegas and are currently living in Thailand with our two new little ladies Clara and Sarah. I am a retired dancer and my husband a retired DJ. My husband and I are currently earning our income from a joint affiliate marketing venture, so we spend most of our days in our condo when working. I am eager to be a far too involved hamster mommy lol.
PS because we bought our ladies in Thailand the language barrier prevented us from being able to get a solid answer as to the breed of our hamsters. Can anyone post a link to an in-depth user-friendly hamster breed guide?

Re: Hamster Dancer Intro
Hello and Welcome to Hamster Central.
Do you have any photos of your hamsters and you can post them on here for us to help you identify their species?

Re: Hamster Dancer Intro
Hi & welcome to HC
Congrats on your new hams, there aren't many species of hamster so with a photo it would be easy to tell which species it is you have.
You can see the five pet species here if you have a hamster that looks like a Russian Winter White or Campbells then you will most likely have a Russian hybrid, a cross between the two species, as both these species are very rarely available other than from a specialist breeder.

Re: Hamster Dancer Intro
Also if you want to know more about hamsters there's a good book called Hamsterlopedia - it's available second hand for about 1p on Amazon uk- if they will ship to you.
Or keep coming on here - lots of information and some experienced breeders on here
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hamsterlopa...Hamsterlopedia
I am also an adult owner. Our last Syrian was my stepson's pet, but our current two hammies are mine/family pets.
With our first syrian, what I found fascinating was observing his behaviour, and learning what his looks and behaviours were communicating. Especially once they are tame and bonded with you they do use a lot of non verbal communication (and sometimes verbal lol). You will get to know if something isn't right in their cage, if they are happy, sad, or cross etc.
For example if our hammy used to run in his wheel a lot and stop and stare at me then go to his water bottle - I found it had emptied itself and he was trying to tell me. Our current hamster is very cheeky - likes walnuts a lot. If I put one out as a treat on a little shelf, he takes it then sort of points to the shelf as if to say - you forgot to put a walnut out. Once I fell for that thinking I had forgotten his daily treat (walnut is just one of the daily treats) and put another one out. Two minutes later he was doing it again! Giving me looks and indicating the shelf and he was trying it on -more walnuts!
