Default Hey!

Hello!! My name’s Ashley and i’m not only new to this website, but i’m also new to the hamster community!! I’ve wanted a hamster for a while & i’ve done some research, but because i already own a dog and a cat, my parents don’t want to get any other pets (probably because ive been asking for another dog, lol) so i never asked, but tonight I decided to look deeper and get any information about hamsters i possibly can, and I came across this website. I’ve been doing research for about 3 hours now, so i know a little bit already and I know the species of hamster I would like to get, but i don’t know enough to where i feel comfortable & confident on getting one I’m open to ANY advice or tips y’all have, whether it’s more information about species of hamsters, where the best place to get them is, how to best care for them, the best environment for them to live in, etc. Thank you, and i’m super excited to (hopefully) become a first time hamster owner!!

Hello Ashley, hamsters are certainly cute pets with a wide range of personalities but I personally wouldn't want to have one if I had a cat or a dog. It's a bit stressful for the hamster and my first hamster was eaten by my cat many years ago. However there are some really experienced hamster owners on this site who manage to share their pet love with carnivores successfully. I hope they will reply to your post,
Good luck whatever you decide,

Yeah, ive read that it can be stressful for the hamster but I know many people who have a dog or a cat who also have a hamster, and their hamster is completely fine! my dog and cat are also never in my room, and my door is always shut. Even those rare times my dog gets into my room, hes in there for not even 5 seconds

Dogs, cats, and hamsters can live in the same home fairly well under a zero tolerance policy of any predators in the same room as a hamster(even with supervision for any length of time!)

thank you!! my dog and cat honestly are never in my room, they're always hanging out with my parents. my door's also shut all the time. sometimes my dog will come in in the mornings before I leave for school and lay down on my rug, but he moves after I walk out the door lol
