The great thing about hamsters is they're all different, I can't guarantee that you'll get a hamster with Num Num's personality, character, never sick, never aggressive. Are there any breeders near you? You could check that out.
One thing I will tell you, each of mine have all been different but, that didn't stop me giving each one my unconditional love.

A possible way or getting a hamster who might have the type of personality your looking for is to see if there are any hamster or small animal rescues near you, many times the people who run the rescues get to know the personality of their animals,
That might help you find a hamster whos personality is good for you?

Many rescues will try to pair you with the best pet for you

Sounds like a pet will be very lucky to live with you, you are so caring. Have you considered an animal with a longer lifespan?

Hi and welcome to HC, Jackie. I am TRULY sorry to hear of your tragic loss of Num Num; he sounded truly special. It is so evident that he had a lovely, long life with you, and he was surrounded by your exceptional love and care. I wish that those around you were more supportive and understanding of the loving bond that you shared with your sweet hammy and the grief that you felt after his passing. It sounds like you have a wonderful place to come and feel closer to him at your backyard tree. I know it is extremely difficult and heart-wrenching to lose anyone (whether human or animal) under any circumstances, but try to focus on all of the precious memories and happy times that you shared instead of only remembering the final moments. Num Num loved you with all of his heart, and he would definitely want his loving, devoted Mum to be happy again and enjoy her life to the fullest. Know that you gave Num Num the best life possible and you did everything you could for him; try to take comfort in that. What helped me deal with the passing of loved ones is to write poetry to them expressing my deepest feeling, placing it in a sealed bottle, and placing it at the special memorial plant that marks their resting place. I also have discovered that opening my heart to another animal who needs my love and care helped me to go through the grieving process. I feel that it is one of the best ways to honor a beloved pet who had passed by giving another pet a loving, forever home. It not only helped to heal my broken heart and fill it with new happiness, but it also allowed an animal who may not ever experience love to have a fulfilled, happy, and loved life as well. If you believe that you are ready, opening your heart again to the love of any animal (whether it be a hamster or not) may prove to be a powerful way to help you deal with your feelings of grief and emptiness. No animal will ever replace the one that passed, but it will enrich your life beyond measure. If you are interested in getting another hammy, you may want to look into getting one from a reputable breeder since the hammy will usually be much younger and it will have been handled more so taming should be much easier. Another wonderful option is to adopt one since the agency will usually pair you with the hammy that is most suited to you and your personality. Of course, there is never any guarantees that any hammy will have a long life, no illnesses, or are friendly all the time, but no matter which you may choose, they will be deserving of all the love and tender care that you can give. Also, you may want to consider choosing a pet that may have a longer lifespan since hamsters don't live as long as many other animals. However, keep in mind that the grieving process and the sense of loss that you feel will be the same no matter how long any animal may live. I will be thinking of you and praying with all of my heart that you will be able to heal and find a sense of peace and happiness again. We are all here for you and truly understand what you are going through so never, ever feel like you have to bottle your emotions up instead of dealing with them. Take care. Big hugs to you, and Eros and Snickers are giving you plenty of whisker kisses, too. Rest in peace, Num Num, and please find a way to send a message to your mum that you are alright and playing happily at the Rainbow Bridge.

Dear Jackie, I know exactly what you meant about NumNum's death being horrible, because I had the same thing when Ivy died in my hands. It was nothing like the peaceful going to sleep thing we all hope for.
When you get a new hammy I hope it's like when Dylan and I got ours. There were several hamsters ready for homing in the shop and the pet shop assistant opened the front of their cage and let us watch the hams. Then she asked if there were any individuals we'd like to sit on our knees as we sat on the floor. So we chose lively ones that came out quickly to see us. After stroking two or three, Dylan chose the friendliest one. That was Cotton and he's been lovely ever since.
Or you could rehome a ham, less likely to be a guaranteed problem free ham, but you could save it from a miserable life. If you even glimpse at the pathetic ads from people looking to offload their unwanted pets it will make you want to scoop one up.
Your hamster lived a long life so you must have taken really good care of the handsome little chap. I hope you get another one. X Ruth
