First Time Owner!
Hey,
I have a beautiful 8 week old syrain hamster that I've decided to call Chi after the star in the Aquarius constellation. She has strawberry blonde fur and a brownish tint patches on her ears. She's very skittish but can be a bit adventurous at times. This is my first time owning a hamster and I want her to have the best life so I'll probably asking a lot of questions on here.
So, yeah, please help me! ;~;

Re: First Time Owner!
Hi Goldenstar,
Welcome to you and Chi, like the name of Chi it is very original.
There are so many knowledgeable folks on here you will be able to get more advice than you can imagine.
My only advice is get the biggest cage you can, and a large wheel ie 28cm these really are a must for a Syrian.
looking forward to seeing photos of her.

Re: First Time Owner!
Just keep asking those questions
Anything you're not sure about don't be afraid to ask & have a good browse through the different sections of the forum too as there's a mine of info there!
I really like your hams name
She sounds as though she's going to be a great friend once she's settled in, just take your time with her & I'm sure she'll be fine.
Look forward to photos when she's settled.

Re: First Time Owner!
Thank you for the welcome, Rads and Cypher
I was given a cage that is okay but not great. I do plan to buy the Savic Hamster Heaven Metro Cage in the very near future. I also have a flying saucer wheel for Chi which she loves. And photos shall come when she is more comfortable.

Re: First Time Owner!
Congrats on Chi! The hamster heaven is a good cage, from what I have heard flying saucers are not good for Syrians, though. You will need to get a big standing wheel. One of the best ones out there is the 12 inch silent runner:

Re: First Time Owner!
The hamster heaven is a nice cage but not big enough for a 12" wheel, I have a 9" in mine & even that means having very little substrate in that part of the cage, a flying saucer large enough for a full grown syrian would fill half the cage too so maybe have a think about that before you finally decide on which cage to get.

Re: First Time Owner!
There are lots of good alternative cages on Zooplus. For example, the Alaska, Barney or Alexander. All big enough for a 12 inch wheel and very popular.

Re: First Time Owner!
Hi and welcome to HC, Goldenstar and Chi! Congrats on getting your first hammy, Goldenstar; I'm sure you and Chi will have a lovely bond. Syrians are wonderful pets, and Chi sounds quite lovely. If you have any questions, always feel free to ask because we are all here to help one another out. I think that you will find HC to be a wonderful source of information and support from a bunch of informed and caring people who share a love for hammies as well as a bunch of other animals. I look forward to seeing you around on the forum, reading about Chi, and seeing lots of pics of her whenever she is settled. I absolutely love the name Chi, btw. It is so unusual and sounds quite fitting considering Chi's coloring. Eros says, "Hi!".
