Default What does this mean?

Hi my hamster Cashew today was going back and forth running hitting the walls of his cage trying to get out and tried getting out by his water Bottle! He did this for around 15-20 min and then stopped! Should I be worried?

I've found that it happens when hamsters aren't satisfied with cage size or setup.

That kind of behaviour for a relatively short time as opposed to all the time suggests something was stressing him, sometimes it's hard to tell what it might be, it could be a sound you couldn't even hear or other animals around, if it happens again try to notice if anything different is happening in his environment.

Usually I find that my hamsters do that when I put them in their travel cage, which is only 180 sq. inches- a lot smaller than their cages. Like Cypher said he could have been startled by something, it's kind of hard to pick out what could have caused it if he has a big enough cage with plenty of toys.

If this was a one time thing, it's very likely he was spooked by something. Do you usually have your tv on? I find that hamsters don't generally mind television and other electronics- especially since they constantly emit high frequency beeps that we can't hear. It could have been something as simple as a dog barking outside that set him off. A strange smell could have caused his nervousness too. It's hard to know what might have caused it, but I wouldn't worry over it now. Just remember next time he does it, take note of what's going on around you. Best wishes
