Meet Misty ( My first Hamster)
Hello everyone, I recently made an account on this forum after months of hamster research and planning to get my new hamster. I always come on here and look at forums for tips and help for my hamster...
last month I got Syrian hamster and named her misty, I originally had her in a petshop cage which I know is too small for her but it was only temporary and she is now in the Alexander cage (101 cm x 52.5 cm x 51 cm). Does anyone have any tips and suggestions for her setup? She has a sandbath and an 11" Wodent Wheel + her Fly n Saucer in the cage, loads of chews too of course.
Here she is:

Re: Meet Misty ( My first Hamster)
Misty looks lovely. You may need rat sized tubes as she gets bigger. Bendy bridges are versatile cage toys.
A litter tray/container is useful if she will use one. It can take awhile for them to establish a pee area within the cage.
A variety of chew toys including a whimzee (dog chew, suitable for hamsters).
Have a look at the show us your cages thread to see other people's cages. You may see toys etc that you or your hamster may like.

Welcome to HC!
Misty is a cutie
It sounds like you're a responsible owner and you are giving her good care. The advice CMB offered is very helpful.
Seeing your whole cage setup may help us determine if you should add anything

Re: Meet Misty ( My first Hamster)
Thank you for the advice, For now I have tubes that go under the substrate aas tunnels since her cage doesn't have external tubes. In one corner she has a sand bath that is protected within a big house she she has plenty of room to do as she pleases in there ( i think she is using it as a toilet and a digging area since it's so large) I also had the 12 inch Wodent wheel in the cage but it was too loud, not squeeking or anything but just her weight on the wheel as she was running kept me up at night so I took it out and she will have to do with her Fly n saucer for now. I think I'm either going to get a wooden wheel or the 12 inch Fly n saucer.

Cage Pictures!
Here are some pictures of the cage. I'm planning on putting in her other shelf I think that is the exact same as the shelf in the pictures but it goes on the other side...

Re: Meet Misty ( My first Hamster)
Looks really nice! Everything is pretty well setup so I can't suggest much else, maybe a few more boxes or huts/accent pieces if you wish
I would try to keep the wodent wheel in if at all possible. Saucers don't really allow for natural running motions, and it's important that your hamster has a wheel that promotes exercising on it. If you absolutely cannot stand the noise, I'd recommend investing in the silent runner. This is a very high quality wheel and it's super sturdy so the only noise you're likely to hear is the pattering of hamster paws. I'll link it below!

(You can also buy directly off of exotic nutrition if you choose)

Re: Meet Misty ( My first Hamster)
Thank you, I'll look into the silent runner a bit more later. It looks pretty expensive though but I guess it will be worth it! Thanks!
