If you've been using the wood shavings up until now & Shadow doesn't have a problem with them then no reason at all why you shouldn't mix them with the fitch.

I have been accused by my dad of spoiling my pets lol, but the way I see it they're my furry children so why not lol, the standard cages from pet shops seem so small now a days (compared to when i was a kid 20 odd years ago) and I want him to have as much as room as possible

, and it's only a one off purchase not monthly so would rather get them ordered now and get him settled in a bigger space

The fitch arrives tomorrow, but I decided to get his new home setup

I have got all the toys I wanted in and his wheel, however I 'm finding it is not as silent (but much quieter than his last) as it seems to have a click when it turns and every now and then sounds as though it squeaks (it's definitely not little man as I have sat and watched him when it does it), it seems to do when he comes to a stop, but he is liking it much more, although he's not running fast he's running much straighter now and not with an arched back which looked as though he was straining when he ran

i should have the fitch by the weekend so will then add some to the cage to bring the level up and give him more digging room

Totally agree that last photo is so adorable!
Looks as though he's enjoying exploring his new cage, I'm sure he'll love all the fitch too when it arrives.

Hi Lucytoons and Shadow, welcome along to HC I like his Pics and as others have said his last one is very cute indeed.
Pippin aka Pip lives in an Alaska cage and she loves it. On the tubes front you could cable tie them to the inside of the roof and make a sky run for him that is my next project for Pip, also the extendable rat tubes are good too they are quite cheap.
If you have a branch of the Range nearby have a look in their pets dept as quite often they are cheaper than P@H.
Pip says Hi and waves a paw.

I finally (last night) swapped over to the fitch, but noticed today that it seems to have "settled", it doesn't seem as deep a it was when i finished arranging his cage last night

, I also made the shelf higher to accommodate the new fitch level

I am much happier with it now and will end up adding a bit more fitch this week

He also had a new sandbath as the one i got from P@H seemed a little small so I bought a large ceramic breafast bowl and put the new sand in that I got too, he spent over 5 minutes in it having a wash and looking out

I also put the 2 new card tunnels in that I got from a pound shop
