Hi everyone thanks for welcoming me to the community
My name is Jessica I am almost 26 years
I have 2 children age 5 and 2 years
I live in the north west of England
I have a degree in zoology and have owned hamsters most of my life
There's been:
Harry - he lived to be 4!
Coco - he died of cold, we lived in a house without central heating and it was a harsh winter one year
frosty - an albino, he lost a finger when my friend trapped it in the cage door. He would escape at night and get into bed with me!
Stuart - albino I rescued from a relative who did not take care of him well. He lived a good life but lost one eye (no idea how) and eventually died of wet tail
Kaybill - lovely hammy who died of old age
Kevin - I went to America for the summer come back and he had developed huge tumours in his kidneys.
He eventually got so old and frail even with antibiotics, one night he fell in his own urine and got stuck on his back...i washed him but his fur and skin was so bad from it and he deteriorated. He had to get put to sleep.
Desmond - my childs first pet. He died of old age.
Cookie - she was barely 1 when she died. Developed a tumour on her face and was euthanized.
Hesbie - current hamster, very friendly and healthy. Not even a year old.
I haven't owned any other pets apart from some fish as my mother was allergic but I now have a cat called errol.
I've only ever owned syrian hamsters
Being a single mother My life consists of housework and raising my children so I don't get much time for myself. I love introducing my children to animals and studied the therapeutic affects of animals on humans as part of my degree so I do find it very beneficial in many ways having pets as part of the family.
Thanks for letting me be a part of this forum and hope to learn a lot and share ideas here with you
