Re: Hello from Bruno
Hi Bruno and welcome - I moved your post to a new thread of it's own.
To make a post you go on to the board on the subject area you want to post eg Behavior and if you look at the top of the boards just above the first thread in brown block writing it will say NEW THREAD - click on that to make your new thread then just submit. Your first ones are moderated so may not show straight away.

Re: Hello from Bruno
Hi Bruno, welcome to HC
How long have you had your ham?
Some can take longer to tame than others & some, females more than males, can be a bit territorial about their cages & are less likely to bite outside the cage.
You could try letting her climb into a jar, tube or anything safe she's happy with then transport her to a safe play area (playpen, large plastic storage box or a large cardboard box will do) & try to interact with her there.
Just try offering her a seed from your fingers at first then gradually move on to placing it on your hand.
You can also try the tissue trick, put some plain white toilet tissue up your sleeve for a few hours, shred it up & put that in the cage, repeating daily for a while if necessary as this helps them to get used to your scent.
I'm not a fan of gloves as they don't get used to hands that way.
If she does bite try not to react as this can just make things worse, gently move your hand away & wait awhile before trying again.
Hope that helps, most do come round with time & patience.

Re: Hello from Bruno
Hi Bruno and Welcome to HC.
How long have you had her? If she's new, then she may still be feeling nervous. Many of us on here have used the toilet paper trick, stuff a load up your sleeves and leave for a couple of hours and then put in her cage, curiosity will have her sniffing at it, this is a great way of your ham getting familiar with your smell. Do this for about a week, add it in. Also, speak softly and quietly as much as you can. When she comes out into her cage, praise her, offer her a treat. Try and avoid doing a cage clean, do daily spot checks. That's what I do and do a cage clean every 4 to 6 weeks.
Hamsters are very good at sensing your feelings, if you're feeling nervous then she'll sense it.

Re: Hello from Bruno
When I posted this reply, Cypher's wasn't there, just noticed we've both mentioned the tissue trick. It really helps.

Re: Hello from Bruno
Hello there nice to meet you!
with my hamsters I did the tissue thing for the first week, then dropped sunflower seeds in the cage so she could see me leaving food and knew where it came from, then on to my hand, then placed her ball into the cage let her climb in and out of it, then after a week I started to lift the ball and just place it in the bath tub, then I started to get in the tub and let her out of the ball and just let her climb all over me (which can tiggle by the way)
this was all before I found this forum, I was looking on utube for videos on taming hamsters and now she only bites if I wake her up.....just like me!

Re: Hello from Bruno
Hi Bruno welcome to HC! Same as everyone else so far has said - some good advice and tips already given! Patience is the key. I find talking constantly helps so as not to startle them and get them used to your voice and presence. Introduce your hand into the cage slowly offering a treat to get them used to your hand, keep doing this until she is more comfortable with you.
