Default Hi there! From South East England

I'm Jaz Back in March we went down to P@H and purchased a Syrian, who we named Fuzz Lightyear - chosen for his fluffiness. As it turned out, we actually call him Pooham. Please don't judge, we're not horrible people, think of it as a "Pooh Bear" kind of name He's been doing pretty well, very sweet, if not a little shy. Never bitten, always amusing. I'm not a first time hamster owner, but I was about 14 when I had the last one and I have a feeling my Mum was mostly responsible for him... always the way eh?

Anyway, pictures! He has such beautiful colouring.

I've been reading the forums like a crazy person because I've decided I want a bigger cage, more toys and generally improve his quality of life. He's very sleepy, quite like a teenager, we see him for probably about 10 minutes unless we wake him up (which I'm not a fan of doing, I hate being woken up!) and on clean out days when we have to wake him up or else it can't get done! As a result I'm worried he may be bored and not have enough to drag himself out of bed for. He isn't in our main living area as such so he doesn't get disturbed much either (except when I'm trying to get him to come out to play...)

This isn't really the place for my questions I will say we're restricted on space. He's currently got a Peggy Savic which is bigger than the picture makes out. I'll have to get pictures of where the cage is (a small built in computer desk) and go ask in the right place what I could do

This forum has already proved very useful! So hey to you and your hammies!

Hi There! Welcome to the forum! Pooham is lovely

Where bouts in the South East are you from?

I had the Peggy Metro cage as my Syrian's first cage (it's the same as yours but with tubes going up and round the top) and decided, like you, to get a bigger cage and more room for toys.

My Mo was a bar chewer, so I also considered that when buying my cage - I went for the Duna Multy http://www.equinecaninefeline.com/ca...-delivery.html

Mo loves it...it's got good floor space for running around, and fits a good amount of toys (even more if you get things that hang from the roof.

However, if Pooham is not a bar chewer, you might want to consider a larger wired cage and I'm sure people will have opionions on which is best! Also, the Duna might be a bit big in width if you have a small area...might be better to go for a taller cage!

Anyway, I'm rambling and all I wanted to say is welcome!!

Thanks We're in Woking, Surrey, just south of London. Woking's lucky to have a P@H.

That is a lovely cage, only 5cm too big for the space x( I will have to remeasure to make sure (somehow hope the magic fairies have added some more cms!), but the space we have is 66W x 45D (can poke out a bit more if necessary) x 54H, with the potential to run tubes down under the desk to another cagey bit. I'd love to get a good base cage first though before extending to see if it makes him more active. Will get photos of the area later

He has one of those little wooden hanging bridges in this cage, but he's never really used it. Chewed the orange block, somehow removed the lowest rung from the ladder. I made a renewed effort to entice him onto it last night with a small (edge piece) of cucumber and he went for it, but I don't think he liked how much it moved. Secured it better this morning and left little pieces of carrot wedged in all four corners. Maybe that'll get him clambering about?

He does chew bars - I'm told. He had to stay at my Grandma's for a week once, and my Mum happened to be staying in the same room We don't hear him because the computer table is in the hall.

No worries for the ramble - it's all good information for me!

Welcome to the forum - hope you start to feel right at home......The cage review has lots of different info on cages, layouts etc. Best bit you can review without leaving the house and getting tempted to purchase something that may not really want. Enjoy.
